Regular Diet Soda Intake Increases Risk of Strokes & Heart Burn
A recent study proved that individuals who are drinking diet sodas everyday are more prone to risks of stroke, heart attack, and heart burn compared those that do not drink this beverage at all. The result of this study poses a great threat to the sales of popular diet soda brands and medical experts are trying their best to defend their claim.
However, the results of this study should not be taken as a way to damage the image of the said beverage. Instead, this should be considered as an effective way to catch the attention of the medical and research community to provide extra efforts in exploring the risks posed by diet sodas.
This was the main point of the statement given by Dr. Steven Greenberg. Dr. Greenberg a neurologist in a Harvard School and is the current vice chairman of the International Stroke Conference in California. Greenberg gave this statement after the result of the study was presented to his team.
The study that link intakes of diet soda to risks of stroke, heart attack, ad heart burn was actually conducted in New York and involved 2,500 participants with ages 40 and above. The participants were selected through random phone calls.
The study lasted for almost ten years. Researchers allowed all the participants to fill out survey forms and also tracked their health for almost a decade. By doing this, the researchers found out that the participants who take diet sodas regularly are 48% more prone to heart burn and stroke compared to non-soda drinkers.
